I Love New York Winters 2010

December 27, 2010

This list of activities to enjoy in the Winter was created in 2010.

Ahhh the holidays! Whether you are looking for relaxation or excitement with the holidays we'll have some activities below.

You can find pictures from around New York State and the Chautauqua-Allegheny Region in the 2010-2011 I Love NY Winter magazine. In fact, the picture on the cover was taken at Holiday Valley and there are several pictures inside.

Both of our ski resorts are open!

We have plenty of snow! We received a soft blanket of snow last night and this morning!

Holiday Valley (716-699-2345)

HoliMont is open to the public Monday thru Friday (716-699-2320)

Cross Country Skiing

Cross Country Skiing is available at Allegany State Park (716-354-9101) and Pfeiffer Nature Center (716-933-0187).

Snowmobiling

Snowmobile trails are open, marked and groomed. A new snowmobile brochure will be available within the next 2 weeks but the new snowmobile trails map is available for download.

Snowshoeing

Bring your snowshoes and explore some of our state lands?  There are also marked trails for snowshoeing at Allegany State Park, Pfeiffer Nature Center and at Snowpine Village near Holiday Valley.

Snow Tubing

For the holidays, the Holiday Valley Tubing Park hours, until Sunday Jan 2, are from Noon to 9 PM!

Snow Tubing Rates

2 Hours - $16

3 Hours - $18

Update: Do you prefer to walk up the hill? I do as climbing up a snow-covered hill is great exercise and it reminds me of sledding as a youth. I love playing on the small hill at the Tubing Park with my kids and those who want to make snow tube trains. Please note snow tube trains aren't allowed on the big hill.

Eat after playing in the snow

If you've come off the slopes why not hang out at some of the restaurants in downtown Ellicottville, New York. If you are somewhere else in Cattaraugus County, then please check out the places to eat.

Winter Travel Packages

We added a Ski & Play package from Seneca Allegany Casino the other day that start at $145/person. They also have another package if you don't know how to ski/snowboard but want to learn for $180/person. Check out our other winter travel packages.

Enchanted Events Q & A

Do you have any plans for New Year's Eve? Take the family to the New Year's Eve Celebration and Torchlight Parade on the slopes of Holiday Valley!

Do you like to ski, snowboard or go tubing AND are you Canadian? If you answered YES to both then you may be able to save some dinero during Holiday Valley's Canadian Friendship Week during which Canadian cash is accepted at par. Check out our area events.

Do you like Blues music? On Jan 7 & 8, 2011, there will be blues bands playing at the local music hot spots during Ellicottville's Winter Blues Festival. Check out Ellicottville Snowed-In's interview with Joseph Mahfoud (corrected link) one of the musicians playing on January 8 at the Blues Fest.

Do you know what songs Tony Orlando sings? Become mesmerized by the songs of Tony Orlando at Seneca Allegany Casino!!!
